Command Sergeant Major O’Brien assumed duties as the Command Sergeant Major of the U.S. Army Garrison at Fort Irwin December 16, 2015. Command Sergeant Major Daniel S. O’Brien is from Dunedin Florida. He entered the United States Army in November of 1990 and attended One Station Unit Training at Fort McClellan, Alabama where he graduated as a 31B Military Police.
 
Command Sergeant Major O’Brien has held numerous leadership positions to include: Team Leader, Squad Leader, Platoon Sergeant, First Sergeant and Command Sergeant Major. He has served in the 1st Armored Division, 1st Calvary Division, 1st Infantry Division and the 2nd Infantry Division.

O’Brien served as the 1SG of D/787th and F/787th MP BN, Operation Sergeant and Police Transition Team NCOIC of the 463rd MP Company. After completing the Sergeants Major Academy he was assigned as the G-3, Protection and Provost Sergeant Major of the 1st Armored Division.
CSM O’Brien was then assigned as the Battalion Command Sergeant Major of the 1st BSTB and 91st BEB, 1st Calvary Division. CSM O’Brien was then assigned as the Battalion Command Sergeant Major of the 93rd Military Police Battalion at Fort Bliss, Texas.
 

Command Sergeant Major O’Brien’s deployments include Bosnia, Croatia, Kosovo, and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Additionally Command Sergeant Major O’Brien served on numerous Presidential and State Department missions to Africa, Croatia, Jordan, and Pakistan.
 
Command Sergeant Major O’Brien’s military education includes all levels of the Noncommissioned Officer Education System, Military Working Dog Handler Course, British Army Sniper Course, First Sergeants Course, Police Transition Team Course, Domestic Violence Intervention Course, Small Group Instructor Trainers Course, 7th Special Forces Group Village Stability Operations Course (VSO), Army Combatives Course Level I & Level II and the Command Sergeants Major Course Battalion Level. Command Sergeant Major O’Brien is a graduate of Class 60 of the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy.
 
CSM O’Brien’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (6 OLC), the Army Commendation Medal (3 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (4 OLC), the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Iraqi Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal (8th award), the NCO Professional Development Ribbon (4), the Overseas Service Ribbon (3), the National Defense Service Medal (2), the Army Superior Unit Award, the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, the German Schutzenschnuer (Silver), the NATO Medal and the United Nations Medal.

Additionally, CSM O’Brien is a member of both the Sergeant Morales and Sergeant Audie Murphy Clubs. CSM O’Brien was an Army Combatives Championship Competitor in 2010 and 2011. He is also a recipient of the Military Police Regiment’s Order of the Marechaussee (Silver).
