Command Sergeant Major (CSM) Matthew R. Lowe hails from Littlestown, Pennsylvania. He entered the United States Army on 22 February 1989 as a Cavalry Scout.

CSM Lowe has served in numerous leadership positions to include the following: Squad Leader, Drill Sergeant, Platoon Sergeant, Observer Controller, First Sergeant, Operations Sergeants Major and Command Sergeants Major.

CSM Lowe’s assignments include: 2nd Battalion 35th Armor Fort Carson, CO; 2nd Squadron 8th Cavalry Fort Hood, TX; 1st Battalion 37th Armor Vilseck, Germany; 5th Squadron 15th Cavalry Fort Knox, KY; 1st Battalion 68th Armor Fort Carson, CO; Operations Group, Fort Irwin, CA; 1St Squadron 71st Cavalry Fort Drum, NY; 5th Squadron 15th Cavalry Fort Knox, KY; United States Army Sergeants Major Academy Fort Bliss, TX; 6th Squadron 1st Cavalry Fort Bliss, TX; 1st Battalion 35th Armor Fort Bliss, TX; 4th Battalion 6th Infantry Fort Bliss, TX; Army Support Activity Soto Cano Airbase, Honduras; United States Army Sergeants Major Academy Fort Bliss, TX; and 4th Cavalry Multi-Functional Training Brigade Fort Knox, KY.

His military education includes all levels of the Noncommissioned Officers Education System, cap-stoning with attendance at the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy (Class 59). CSM Lowe is also a graduate of the following courses: Drill Sergeant School, Basic Instructor Course, Senior/Instructor Operator Course, Joint Firepower Course, and the Battalion and Brigade Pre-Command Course.

His military awards and decorations include: the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal (2nd award), Meritorious Service Medal (7th award), Army Commendation Medal (5th award), Army Achievement Medal (6th award), Drill SGT Badge and Combat Action Badge. He is a member of the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club and is a recipient of the Order of Saint George, the order of Saint Maurice and the Order of Saint Barbara.
