Command Sergeant Major Harris entered the Army as a Motor Transport Operator (88M) and completed Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.

CSM Harris' previous assignments include: Regimental Plans and Operations NCOIC, Transportation Regiment, Fort Lee, Virginia; Operations Sergeant, 82nd Sustainment Brigade Special Troops Battalion, Fort Bragg, North Carolina; First Sergeant, 546th Transportation Company, Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Secretary, General Staff NCOIC, 1st Sustainment Command (Theater), Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Combat Service Support Sergeant (MiTT), Combined Security Transition Forces – Afghanistan, Camp Stone, Afghanistan; Battalion Support Operations NCOIC, 7th Transportation Battalion, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and Platoon Sergeant, 126th Transportation Company, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

His military education includes completion of all Noncommissioned Officer Education System schools and he is a graduate of the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy Class 64. He has completed the First Sergeant Course (Commandant's List), Battle Staff NCO Course (Commandant's List), Basic Air Assault Course (Distinguished Honor Graduate), Military Transition Team Training Course, Senior Enlisted Joint Professional Military Education Course (SEJPME), Manpower and Force Management Course, Joint Logistics Course, Mobilization/Deployment Planning Course, Strategic Deployment Planning Course, Support Operations Course, Joint Operations Planning and Execution Systems Course (JOPES), Training Developer's Course, and the Recruiter Management Course.

CSM Harris has deployed in support of numerous operations to include Desert Shield/Storm, Operation Joint Guard, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation Enduring Freedom. He holds a Bachelor's of Science in Business Administration from Grantham University and a Master's of Science in Management from Excelsior College. CSM Harris' awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal with four oak leaf clusters, Army Commendation Medal with silver oak leaf and bronze oak leaf, Army Achievement Medal with four oak leaf clusters, Armed Forces Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Gold Recruiter Badge w/3 Star Sapphires, Air Assault Badge and the Driver's Mechanic Badge w/Wheel clasp.

CSM Harris is a member of the Transportation Corps Regimental Association and a recipient of the Honorable Order of Saint Christopher.
