Command Sergeant Major Roy A. Holmes is a native of Malone, New York and enlisted in the United States Army on June 23rd, 1990. He has an Associate’s degree from Excelsior College and is a graduate of the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy Class ‘62. CSM Holmes completed OSUT training at Ft. Benning, GA and his duty assignments include 2-327th Infantry at Ft. Campbell, KY where he served as a rifleman, grenadier, machine gunner, Team Leader, Squad Leader, and Support Platoon Sergeant. He served with the United Nations Honor Guard in Yongsan, Korea, as a Squad Leader with the 2-503rd Infantry at Camp Casey, Korea, as a Rifle Company Platoon Sergeant with the 1-327th Infantry at Ft. Campbell, KY, as the Operations Sergeant in 1st Infantry Battalion at the United States Army Military Academy at West Point, as the Anti-Tank Platoon Sergeant and a Rifle Company Platoon Sergeant at the 2-14th Infantry at Ft. Drum, as the as a 1SG at the 4-31st Infantry at Ft. Drum, as the Operations Sergeant Major with the 1/71st Cavalry at Ft. Drum, and as the Rear Command Sergeant Major for the 3/10th Mountain Brigade Combat Team. His most recent assignment was as the Battalion Command Sergeant Major of the 1-32nd Infantry Battalion.

CSM Holmes deployed in support of Operation Desert Shield, Operation Desert Storm, Operation Restore Hope in Haiti, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Iraqi Resolve, and to Jordan. His military training, education, include Air Assault School, Jungle Warfare School, Battle Staff, WLC, ALC, SLC, First Sergeant’s Course, and the Sergeants Major Academy. His military awards and decorations include the Bronze Star 3rd award, Meritorious Service medal 3rd award, Army Commendation Medal 6th award, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, South West Asia Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, GWOT Expeditionary and Service Medal, Kuwait Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Over Seas Service Ribbon, United Nations Medal, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait Liberation Medal, the Combat Infantryman’s Badge 2nd award, the Expert Infantryman’s Badge, and the Air Assault Badge.
