Colonel Paul T. Calvert

Colonel Paul T. Calvert is a 1988 distinguished military graduate of North Georgia College and was commissioned as an Armor officer.

Colonel Calvert’s initial assignment was with 3rd Squadron, 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment in Amberg, Germany where he served as a tank and scout Platoon Leader in K Troop and then as the Executive Officer of I Troop.  While assigned to I Troop, he deployed to the CENTCOM AOR in support of Operation Desert Shield/Storm.  In 1992, he was assigned to the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment in El Paso, Texas.  There he served as the Assistant Regimental S4, 2nd Squadron S4 and Commander of E Troop and the Regimental Headquarters and Headquarters Troop.  In the spring of 1996, he was assigned to the United States Army Personnel Command in Alexandria, Virginia where he served as the Armor Branch Chief for the Enlisted Personnel Management Directorate.  After graduating from the Command and General Staff College in the summer of 2000, he was assigned to the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment at Fort Irwin, California.  There he served as the Regimental Training Officer, 2nd Squadron (Infantry) Operations Officer and the Regimental Operations Officer.  Rejoining the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment in September 2002 at Fort Carson, Colorado, he served as the Regimental Operations Officer spending a year deployed to the CENTCOM AOR in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  In June 2004, he was assigned to U.S. Northern Command’s Standing Joint Force Headquarters where he served as an Interagency and Civil Support Planner.  In June 2006, he was assigned as the Squadron Commander of 2nd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment at Fort Carson, Colorado.  Under his command, the squadron conducted a unit move to Fort Hood, Texas in July 2006 where they reformed, equipped, trained and deployed on a fifteen month deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 07-09.  Following redeployment he was assigned to Maxwell Air Force Base in July 2009 to attend the U.S. Air War College.  Upon graduation, COL Calvert assumed command of the 2nd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division at Fort Riley, Kansas.  Shortly after assuming command, the brigade was re-organized as an Advise and Assist Brigade and its deployment accelerated by nearly 100 days.  COL Calvert led the brigade through an intense training cycle and successful deployment to Baghdad, Iraq in support of Operation New Dawn conducting Security Force Assistance in partnership with two Iraqi Area Commands, four Iraqi Army Divisions and three Iraqi Federal Police Divisions.  COL Calvert completed his tour with 2nd HBCT and assumed command of Operations Group, National Training Center on 25 June 2012.

 

COL Calvert is a graduate of the Scout Platoon Leader’s Course, the Cavalry Leader’s Course, the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, and the U.S. Air War College.

 

COL Calvert’s awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Air Medal, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Combat Action Badge and the Parachutist Badge.

 

Colonel Calvert is married to the former Traci Stratigos of Lithonia, Georgia.  They have three daughters – Faith, Ivy and Chloe.
