Alpha Troop, 1st Squadron, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, "ASSASSINS," is organized as a Mechanized Infantry Troop with three Mechanized Infantry Platoons, a Maintenance Section and a Headquarters Section with a total authorized strength of 117 Soldiers, NCOs and Officers.

Assassin Troop fulfills two missions.  The first mission is to operate as OPFOR (Opposing Force) at the National Training Center in order to prepare Army Brigade Combat Teams and sister service units for combat operations in the Global War on Terror.  Troopers at the 11 ACR are considered the Army's elite OPFOR unit.  For this mission, the Troop populates towns in the NTC training area as civilians on the battlefield and conducts insurgent operations against Army BCTs.

Assassin Troop's second mission is to stand ready to rapidly deploy to designated areas worldwide and execute decisive combat operations to defeat enemy conventional and insurgent forces.  For this mission, the Troop trains as a Mechanized Infantry Troop on a full range of individual and collective tasks focused on preparing its Infantryman for the War on Terror.
