CSM Phillip N. Simpao
2/11 ACR Command Sergeant Major

CSM Simpao entered active service March 1991 one station Unit Training at Fort Benning, Georgia as an Infantryman.  His assignments include 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Fort Benning, GA (two tours); 1st Battalion 34th Infantry, Fort Jackson, SC; 6th Ranger Training Battalion, Eglin Air Force Base, FL; 1st Squadron 89th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (LI) and Headquarters and Headquarters Company 2nd Brigade Combat Team 10th Mountain Division (LI) Fort Drum, NY; and most recently the Joint Center of Excellence, Joint IED Defeat Organization, Fort Irwin, CA.  His overseas tours include: Somalia, Afghanistan, and Iraq. 

CSM Simpao has served in a variety of Airborne Light Infantry leadership positions to include: Machine Gun Team Leader, Rifle Fire Team Leader, Weapons Squad Leader, Rifle Platoon Sergeant, First Sergeant, and Battalion and Brigade Operations Sergeant Major.  Lastly, he has successfully served with distinction as a Drill Sergeant and Ranger Instructor.

CSM Simpao’s military education includes all levels of the Noncommissioned Officer Education System. Additionally, he has completed the Drill Sergeant Course, Jungle Operations Training Course, Special Operations Training Course, Jumpmaster Course, Norwegian Winter Warfare Course, Ranger Course, Modern Army Combative Course, Emergency Medical Technician- Basic Course, Ranger Indoctrination Program and Airborne Course.

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (1st Oak leaf cluster), Meritorious Service Medal (3rd Oak leaf cluster), Army Commendation Medal (1st Oak leaf cluster), Army Achievement Medal (1st Silver oak leaf cluster), Valorous Unit Citation Award, Meritorious Unit Citation Award, Army Good Conduct Medal (6th award), National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal (with Arrowhead and Bronze Star), Iraqi Campaign Medal (with Bronze Star), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (Numeral 4), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Drill Sergeant Identification Badge, the Coveted Ranger Tab, Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, Master Parachutist Combat Badge with Bronze Service Star, British Parachutist Badge, Belgium Parachutist Badge, and the Canadian Parachutist Badge.

CSM Simpao is a graduate of the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy Class 58.
